Frequently Asked Questions
What is involved in a pelvic health appointment?
The start of your pelvic health appointment begins with you telling me what you hope to get out of your appointment. Next, I gather information about yourself and your symptoms which involves me asking questions. If required we will then complete an assessment, this might be a musculoskeletal examination or a pelvic floor examination depending on your symptoms and goals. Using the information gathered from questions and assessment I will provide advice, education, exercises and reassurance.
What sort of information will I need to share?
Due to the nature of our discussion some of these questions are intimate. If there are things that you don’t wish to discuss or you want to know why I am asking any of the questions then please let me know. Everything I ask in clinic is to help me gather all the relevant information so we can help tailor your treatment to you.
Do I need a pelvic floor examination?
I understand pelvic floor exams can be daunting for people, this is not something that is required if you wish not to do this. The reason why we do an examination is that it helps us to see how the muscles are working and allows us to give more tailored advice. If you decide you don’t want an exam then I can still provide you with a wealth of information to help your symptoms.
What is involved in a pelvic floor exam?
Explanation of examination will be completed thoroughly before this is done in clinic. During the exam I look at the vaginal tissues, assess sensation, observe a pelvic floor exercise and cough. If an internal examination is required I would complete a finger examination to assess muscular strength and co-ordination. This is usually performed in a lying position but if required we can check alternative positions such as standing, squatting etc.
I have my period, can I still have an examination?
Yes you can, however I understand that sometimes we aren’t the most comfortable during this time so if you wish to reschedule that is fine.
Can I bring my baby or child to the appointment?
Yes of course! However, if someone is able to look after them then it means we can have a full appointment focused on you.
How do I book?
Use the contact form to send me details about yourself and what you are looking for from your appointment, I will get in contact to organise an appointment that suits you.
How do I pay?
Once you have secured your appointment, you will receive an email with bank details to transfer the payment to.
How long does the appointment last?
Most appointments are 60 minutes, however, there is an option for a 90 minute appointment if required.
